Location:
On the outskirts of the picturesque Eastern Cape village of St Francis Bay with its beaches, canals, golf courses and restaurants, but nestled in a tranquil private nature reserve amidst a network of fynbos, wetlands, dunes and water courses.

Description:
This exclusive 147 hectare estate boasts a mere 26 stands which have been carefully positioned to maximise views and privacy. The 1 000 sq m sites are located on two distinct ridges, separated by an expanse of wetlands that attracts a rich diversity of bird life. Stands are priced from R750 000.

The estate provides a secure living environment, with its high fence surrounds and two gatehouses providing access to the two home site ridges.

A network of well marked and maintained walking trails will lead homeowners on a leisurely route around the estate. Low pedestrian bridges straddle the web of wetland streams for access, while bird-hides and shaded picnic spots are to be found along the way. These trails are also suitable for runners and cyclists. Environmentally managed paths will provide access into the sand dunes which provide fascinating glimpses into the way of life of the Strandloper people who roamed the area in a past era.

Dune Ridge Estate embodies all that is ecologically sound, from an ongoing alien eradication program, to a wetland restoration program, estate solar power, recycling of homeowners waste, estate environmental officer, experienced staff and an architectural theme that treads lightly plus much more. These all add up to an environmentally sensitive estate for you to be proud of!

Architectural Style: Eastern Cape Farmhouse Aesthetic
The architectural aesthetic is based on the traditional Eastern Cape farmhouse style, but each residence is imaginatively adapted to suit the unique dune environment. Wrap-around low slung roofs, large chimneys and deep verandas are combined with the modern elements of "sheer unframed glazing" and limited areas of exposed concrete. These textures are complimented by the warmth of timber, rock gabions and earthy hues.

Ecologically Sensitive
The buildings will be designed to "touch the ground lightly". This ecological sensitivity is to be achieved by "floating" the buildings slightly off the ground and making them "transparent" by introducing large areas of shaded glass. This ensures that the natural environment of fynbos and milkwood penetrates the house from all levels, integrating the structure effortlessly within its' surroundings.

Environmentally Appropriate
The buildings will be designed in such as way as to protect the occupants from weather extremes, particularly south westerly winds. Courtyard arrangements in this respect will be encouraged.

Sustainable Principles
All reasonable attempts will be applied to ensure that building materials are from sustainable sources. For example: verification will be required to guarantee that timber is acquired from approved sustainable plantations.

Solar power, rain water storage, reuse of "grey water" etc. and the utilization of natural energy systems will be promoted. Every effort will be made to ensure that residences have the means to be self-sufficient in terms of energy needs.
